Case Study - Strategy & Advisory

Shaping the digitally enabled future of paramedic care for Ambulance Victoria.

Partnering with Ambulance Victoria to design the digitally connected paramedic of tomorrow.

The context

Ambulance Victoria understood that success in designing technology is about putting people first. That's why they partnered with Alyve in early 2020 to define their Connected Paramedic initiative.

Our mission was to design an end-to-end future state paramedic experience model to not only enhance operational workflows, but to improve clinical decision making, integrate paramedics across patient journeys, and reduce administrative overheads.

This required a project approach that leveraged our technology and design expertise, engaged the people of Ambulance Victoria, and aligned with its broader technology transformation.

Our approach

In collaboration with Ambulance Victoria, and engaging directly with paramedics, Alyve took a human-centric approach. To build our depth of understanding we undertook an extensive exploration of how paramedics deliver care, including ride-alongs with ambulance crews.

Our thorough and engaging stakeholder consultation process meant we developed and prioritised a extensive set of requirements spanning the paramedic experience.

These insights were used to develop a future state blueprint of the end-to-end paramedic journey. We considered the management of critical handover points between paramedics, the use of data and modern technologies, and how to deliver optimised paramedic and patient outcomes.

The results

Alyve delivered a comprehensive vision for the connected paramedic, and a plan to realise that vision. Our approach put paramedics at the heart of the project, while suitability considering the role of other key operational functions. The results were impressive. The deliverables were fully endorsed by the executive and the project was described as a benchmark for transformation projects.
